Sting and Shaggy on Broadway, for 9 Nights Only
"Who hasn't revised their Tony-nominated musical in order to act alongside their best friend for a few days?"
"I grew up in the shadow of a shipyard, watching thousands of men walk past my front door every morning to work there, and imagining that would be my destiny too,"
"But the further I got, the more that shipyard called to me. The Last Ship is my tribute to the people and the place that shaped me."
Sting will headline a newly adapted production of The Last Ship with a new book and retooled, personal songs. The story follows Jackie White returning to his northeastern English hometown and confronting the community impact when the shipyard, the town's beating heart, closes. The original musical premiered on Broadway in 2014 and drew from Sting's childhood near a shipyard. Shaggy will portray the Ferryman, a tertiary character in the original who had a spotlight song titled "And Yet," with the role possibly expanded. Nine performances will run June 9–14 at New York's Metropolitan Opera House.
