"At launch, it's only available for a limited number of tracks, but there are plans to expand it. Bits of trivia and background about songs are presented as short, swipeable cards with information harvested from "third-party sources." The text is generated using machine learning, but Spotify at least cites its sources on the About the Song cards. The company declined to say whether the feature would eventually be available to free users or when it might leave beta."
"About the Song is Spotify's latest attempt to build value-addedfeatures around its core music streaming. It began offering expanded Song Credits and SongDNA late last year, which give listeners more information about the creators behind their favorite songs and expose connections between them. The company also purchased WhoSampled in November of 2025, giving it access to a huge database of sample credits that it can use as part of SongDNA and About the Song."
Spotify is launching About the Song in beta, offering contextual facts and trivia about songs. Premium users can access About the Song from the Now Playing view and scroll to view short, swipeable cards. At launch the feature is available only for a limited number of tracks, with plans to expand availability. Cards contain information harvested from third-party sources and the card text is generated using machine learning; Spotify cites those sources on the cards. The company declined to say whether free users will gain access or when the feature will exit beta. The feature complements Song Credits, SongDNA, and the WhoSampled acquisition.
