Something Is About to Happen to Mitski (It's an Album Release)
"Mitski, the indie-music icon turned reluctant TikTok superstar, has returned with new music. The singer confirmed her upcoming album, Nothing's About to Happen to Me, with the release of a new single, "Where's My Phone? " Out February 27, the album was recorded with a live band and orchestra and follows a recluse who lives in an "unkempt" house, per a press release. "Outside of her home, she is a deviant" the release says. "Inside of her home, she is free.""
"On "Where's My Phone?" Mitski sings about wanting to be free of her thoughts while looking for her phone. In the surrealist video, she plays a woman forcing a girl, who looks like her and could be seen as a younger version or a daughter, to stay in her home, while the girl attempts to get out. Meanwhile, an older woman causes chaos around the house."
Mitski returned with a new album, Nothing's About to Happen to Me, due February 27. The album was recorded with a live band and orchestra. The record follows a recluse living in an "unkempt" house; outside the home she is a deviant, while inside she is free. The lead single, "Where's My Phone?", arrives with a surreal music video. In the video Mitski forces a lookalike girl to stay in the house as an older woman creates chaos. A milkman is tackled, blood is licked from a finger, and Mitski kills a man who tries to free the girl. The sequence ends with children carrying the girl away as Mitski lies on the lawn. A later track titled "Dead Women" suggests darker themes continue.
