Dickey Betts, born in West Palm Beach, raised in Bradenton, had family roots in Florida back to the Civil War, with Betts Road named after his family in Myakka City.
Betts formed a band in Jacksonville in the late '60s with bassist Berry Oakley, leading to the formation of the Allman Brothers Band in the same locale in 1969.
