Planet Brooklyn Festival to showcase diverse sounds and flavors of Brooklyn
Briefly

Planet Brooklyn is a two-day inaugural music festival celebrating Brooklyn's diverse sounds, flavors, and Caribbean-influenced culture, headlined by soca star Machel Montano. Montano previously became the first soca artist to sell out Barclays Center in 2022. The event includes a free block party and a headline concert, with local talent such as Brooklyn father-and-son DJ duo St. James Joy performing a mix of hip-hop, R&B, Afrobeats, amapiano, and funk. Dejuan Wilson of BSE Global frames the festival as a celebration of Brooklyn as a center of global culture and a late-summer gathering that brings island communities together.
"Caribbean culture in Brooklyn, this is where we really melted and come together all the islands," said Montano. "A show like this is exciting to celebrate this festival with that name."
"Brooklyn is the center of global culture and we wanted to celebrate that...before the summer is over," said Dejuan Wilson, chief products and experiences officer at BSE Global.
"I'm going to play a little bit of everything," said Chad Vill. "A little bit of hip-hop R&B, some Afrobeats, some ampiano, some funk."
"I never thought it would happen," said his father Jo Vil. "But it did happen and we're proud to be part of it."
