Ozomatli Brings 30 Revolutions Tour to The Guild Theatre | Metro Silicon Valley | Silicon Valley's Leading Weekly
"Our whole lives were committed to the first 15 years. That's really when we travelled the most and toured the most. From hometown clubs in Los Angeles to touring several continents as U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors, to earning three Grammys, it's been quite a run."
"Oh, wow. This is kind of a big deal. We looked at each other and said it's worth recognising that we survived for this long and appreciating one another and appreciating the history we've experienced. And the love we have felt, the love we've given."
Ozomatli is a six-member ensemble founded on Latin rhythms blended with reggae, samba, funk, hip-hop and jazz. The founding members—Raúl Pacheco, Wil-Dog Abers, Ulises Bella, Asdru Sierra, Jiro Yamaguchi and Justin Poréé—have spent three decades performing globally, from Los Angeles clubs to international tours as U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors. The band earned three Grammy Awards and traveled extensively during their first 15 years. Upon reaching their 30-year milestone on April Fools' Day, the members recognized the achievement's significance and organized a 40-date anniversary tour. Though some members like MC Chali 2na and Cut Chemist departed to pursue other projects, the core group has remained committed to their mission of connecting audiences through worldly sounds.
