Music's biggest stars use the Grammys stage to protest Trump's immigration crackdown
"Before I say thanks to God, I'm gonna say: ICE out,"
"We're not savage, we're not animals, we're not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans."
"The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don't hate them, we love our family. Don't forget it, that's how we do it with love,"
Artists used the Grammys platform to protest ICE and U.S. immigration enforcement, with activists circulating protest pins on the red carpet and at pre-ceremony events. Billie Eilish, Finneas and Carole King wore pins onstage; Justin and Hailey Bieber also displayed them. Eilish opened her song of the year speech by saying that "no one is illegal on stolen land." Olivia Dean, recognized as best new artist, noted her immigrant ancestry and said immigrants "deserve to be celebrated." Winners including Kehlani cursed ICE, and Bad Bunny condemned ICE while urging love over hate.
