Brent Hinds died in a motorcycle accident on the night of August 20. Mastodon posted that they are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief and asked that everyone respect the privacy of his family, friends, and fans. Hinds co-founded Mastodon in 2000 and remained with the band until earlier this year, when the band decided to part ways with him. In recent weeks Hinds had expressed anger toward his former bandmates and hurled harsh insults after being removed. Hinds appeared on all eight of Mastodon's studio albums, including 2021's Hushed and Grim.

We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we've shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many.
