"This will be one of the largest economic development projects in Prince George's County history,"
"We're excited for what this means for our people, and how it will showcase the best of what Maryland has to offer to everyone who visits."
A 6,000-seat Sphere is planned for National Harbor near Washington, D.C., developed by Sphere Entertainment Co. and Peterson Companies with state and county cooperation. The venue will include the Exosphere exterior LED display, the highest-resolution interior LED screen, haptic seating, 4D environmental effects, and other immersive technologies found in the larger Las Vegas Sphere. Planners estimate an economic impact exceeding $1 billion annually and support for about 4,750 jobs once operational. The project could receive roughly $200 million in combined state, local, and private funding. National Harbor already features attractions such as the Capital Wheel and an MGM resort with a 3,000-seat concert venue.
