Laibach Detail First New Album of Original Material in 12 Years, Unveil "Allgorhythm"
"The album is described as the legendary avant-garde industrial outfit's "most pop outing" to date, as hinted by the lead single "Allgorhythm," which features Ghanaian singer Wiyaala and a notable co-production credit from pop auteur Richard X. Building from a humorous spoken-word passage from frontman Milan Fras, the song kicks into a club-ready, dance-pop beat that occasionally drops out for more sardonic lines from Fras, such as the chorus refrain: "Slaves to the algorithm.""
"The rest of the album sees the group making similar observations about the "present era of warped reality and gaudy AI copycatting." Other sonic excursions include dips into J- and K-pop, with the band - primarily associated with industrial music - embracing a "broad spectrum of contemporary music production." "However our primary influence and reference point remained Laibach itself," the group assured in a press release, "in all our shades, variations, and historical transformations.""
Laibach have announced MUSICK, the group's first album of original material since 2014, due May 1 via Mute. The lead single "Allgorhythm" features Ghanaian singer Wiyaala and co-production from Richard X, combining Milan Fras' spoken-word with a club-ready dance-pop beat and sardonic lines like "Slaves to the algorithm." The album examines the present era of warped reality and gaudy AI copycatting while venturing into J- and K-pop and a broad spectrum of contemporary production. Laibach maintain that their primary influence remained Laibach itself across shades and historical transformations. A European/UK tour supporting the release launches in mid-May.
