Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) provides free music education and instruments to students ages 5–18 across multiple L.A. sites. The Esteban E. Torres High School site in East L.A., serving 165 students, will face program reductions because of financial shortfalls. Rehearsals will be reduced from four days to two, all site teaching artists were laid off, and only two conductors remain to lead remaining ensembles. Programming for younger groups (Sprouts and Explorers) will be gutted with relocation options to other sites. Higher-level students will face modified instruction, and one teaching artist estimated roughly an 80% loss in student learning.
