Kraig Jarret Johnson (Golden Smog, Jayhawks) diagnosed with cancer; GoFundMe launched
"Kraig Jarret Johnson, a Minneapolis indie vet who's played in Golden Smog, The Jayhawks, Run Westy Run, and other groups over the last 40 years, has been diagnosed with cancer. His family wrote: "He underwent surgery to remove a third of his colon and after some tests, we learned that the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes.""
"Over the next few months he will be undergoing chemotherapy and will be unable to work. Our mom will be Kraig's primary caregiver and they will both be out of work for the foreseeable future. We are raising funds to cover their household expenses (for possibly the rest of the year) as well as the endless medical bills they will encounter."
"Our mom and Kraig are the most generous people we know and have taught us how to show up for those we love, those we do not know. We are abundantly aware of the crisis our community is facing, especially our immigrant neighbors, our Black and Brown neighbors, and other vulnerable community members. It feels like an inappropriate time to ask for community support;"
Kraig Jarret Johnson underwent surgery to remove a third of his colon; tests showed the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes. He will undergo chemotherapy and will be unable to work. His mother will be his primary caregiver, and both are expected to be out of work for the foreseeable future. A GoFundMe has been launched to cover household expenses (possibly for the rest of the year) and mounting medical bills. The family emphasizes their generosity and awareness of broader community crises and expresses reluctance to ask for support. He performed recently with Golden Smog in New York City and at Wilco's Sky Blue Sky event.
