"PLAY ME, Gordon's third solo album, arrives March 13th via Matador. The 11-track set extends her collaboration with Los Angeles producer Justin Raisen (Yves Tumor, Charli XCX), and is described in a press release as "an interior record, one in which a heightened emotionality pulses through physical jams.""
"'We wanted to do it really fast. It's more focused, and maybe more confident,' Gordon said of the album in a statement. 'I always kind of work off of rhythms, and I knew I wanted it to be even more beat-oriented than the last one. Justin really gets my voice and my lyrics and he understands how I work - that came forth even more on this record.'"
"NOT TODAY is the lead track for a reason. Its mellow flow and rippling drums are the backdrop for Gordon's powerful moaning vocals, which sound different than what she typically releases. 'I started singing in a way I hadn't sung in a long time,' she explained. 'This other voice came out.'"
PLAY ME is Kim Gordon's third solo album, arriving March 13 via Matador and featuring 11 tracks produced with Justin Raisen. The record extends the Raisen collaboration and adopts an interior, emotionally heightened approach that mixes emotional intensity with physical jams. Gordon described the sessions as fast, more focused and confident, emphasizing rhythms and a stronger beat orientation. The lead single "NOT TODAY" pairs mellow flow and rippling drums with unusually powerful, moaning vocals and a newly revealed singing voice. The video, directed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy, presents Gordon in a custom silk tulle dress in a house, simple yet majestic. Gordon recently reworked "BYE BYE" into a protest song against Donald Trump.
