They found Sykes inside with critical stab wounds. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene, police said. Jubilant Sykes, born in Los Angeles in 1954, performed soprano as a child and later sang baritone, jazz and gospel. Police responded to a 911 call reporting an assault at his Santa Monica residence, found him with critical stab wounds, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His 31-year-old son, Micah Sykes, was at the home and taken into custody; a weapon was recovered and the investigation and potential filing with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office are ongoing.
