"a year ago, i was scared that i'd never release music again,"
"This past year, I dealt with a lot of change in my personal life and career and for a moment it felt like nothing good would ever come again. In my backyard, there is a planter filled with the most resilient sunflowers I've ever seen. I wrote this song about watching them find life over and over again and how they taught me to celebrate good things because oftentimes they have fought hard to be good."
Joy Oladokun signed with Concord Records and released the single "Nothing Comes Easy" alongside a music video in which she gets a tattoo to honor the song's meaning. Over the past year, she experienced significant personal and career change and at one point feared she might never release music again. She feels grateful for a new beginning and for people who supported her. The song was inspired by resilient sunflowers in her backyard that repeatedly find life, teaching her to celebrate good things because they often fought hard to become good. The track and visuals emphasize resilience, renewal, and gratitude.
