I needed to be locked up': how Kavana went from 90s pop stardom to smoking crack in a skip and bounced back
Briefly

Anthony Kavanagh, known as Kavana, reflects on his life post-pop stardom in his memoir, Pop Scars. After being fired from his label, he copes with dark moments through humor. He shares personal anecdotes, including moments of addiction and self-deprecating experiences. Although he faced significant challenges, including a stint in rehab, he acknowledges the journey to self-acceptance. Writing the memoir has helped him regain self-esteem, allowing for kinder self-reflection, as he navigates being an alcoholic in recovery.

After being fired, I walked across London in the rain, realizing I was no longer a pop star. I received a grubby tea towel from a bartender.
Writing the book has helped. It's given me some self-esteem which is what I’ve been desperately lacking for a long time.
I had that narrative for a long time. When you have a lot of rejection, you can be very hard on yourself.
