Grizzly Bear Are Back and Want to Play the Deep Cuts
"It's, what, almost seven years since we last played together?"
"Sorry, I'm a little rusty with interviews."
"Leading up to this rehearsal, we've been nervous about how we'll sound or what it feels like being together in a room again, but the vibe is really positive," he says. "I'm happy to see everyone so happy-although maybe that's the caretaker in me. I live to see everyone happy together."
Grizzly Bear reunites for a multi-night tour after a six- to seven-year live hiatus, rehearsing in Burbank and Los Angeles and relearning selected songs. Band members approach the return with a mix of calm, jitters, and excitement, and emphasize positive group dynamics. Individual members pursued diverse projects during the break: Ed Droste studied psychology and worked as an associate therapist while guesting on other artists' tracks; Daniel Rossen released the solo album You Belong There and scored Past Lives with Chris Bear; Bear recorded for Fleet Foxes and as Fools; Chris Taylor produced records for various artists. The band headlines a five-night run at Brooklyn Steel next week.
