Gretna Van Fleet died on Monday, May 18, at age 95. Her name became the namesake of the rock band Greta Van Fleet after drummer Kyle Hauck mentioned his grandfather was dropping him off to cut wood for Gretna Van Fleet. Frontman Josh Kiszka removed the “n” from Gretna to form the band name, which Gretna herself blessed. Her obituary says she was a founding member of the Bag Ladies at her local church, helping sew and mend garments for community members and soldiers. She played many instruments, formed the Allenaires with her brothers in her 20s, and her legacy coincides with the band’s upcoming May 27 New York comeback show.
"Tickets will be on sale at the box office only on May 26th. It is the band's first show in nearly two years, with their last performance coming on September 29th, 2024."
