Gorillaz Climb the Mountain to Make Their Long-Awaited SNL Debut
"Making up for lost time, Damon Albarn dedicated the night's first performance to the band's 2001 debut single, "Clint Eastwood." Del the Funky Homosapien was, of course, on hand to deliver his verse on the beloved track."
"Gorillaz then turned to their new album, The Mountain, performing the title track with guest appearances from Asha Puthli, Black Thought, and Anoushka Shankar."
"Later this fall, Gorillaz will embark on a 22-date North American headlining tour. They're also in the midst of a four-week run (through March 19th) of their House of Kong exhibition at Los Angeles' Rolling Greens DTLA."
Gorillaz appeared on Saturday Night Live for the first time in their nearly 30-year career. The performance featured their 2001 debut single "Clint Eastwood" with Del the Funky Homosapien, followed by the title track from their new album The Mountain, which included guest appearances from Asha Puthli, Black Thought, and Anoushka Shankar. The band is currently touring North America with 22 dates scheduled and running a House of Kong exhibition in Los Angeles through March. A short film accompanies The Mountain album, and founders Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett created the project through grief and global collaboration.
