"Flash games were everywhere in the late '90s and early 2000s, as they were an easy way to play games on the internet, no downloads required. Unfortunately, many of these games are now lost due to Flash having been discontinued in 2020, but others were lost even before then as they were harder to preserve. One such game was actually from the fictional musical group Gorillaz called Kong Studios, and in a bit of a surprise move, the game has been brought back to life."
"That last line certainly implies news about future projects will be revealed on the site before anywhere else. Gorillaz fans also might want to juke out the jukebox in Kong Studios, as it features a teaser for a new song called The Happy Dictator. Or you can just listen to Feel Good Inc. for presumably the 1000th time. Gorillaz, while made up of fictional members, is the project of Blur frontman Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The group's next album is scheduled to release in 2026."
Kong Studios originally launched in 1998 as a fictional Gorillaz recording studio where users could explore rooms, listen to music, and find hidden secrets. The original site closed in 2008 and many Flash-era games were lost when Flash was discontinued in 2020, making preservation difficult. The site has now been revived with updated graphics and a new playable shooter inspired by the "Clint Eastwood" music video in which players fend off gorillas on the way to Kong Studios. The revived site functions as a gamified fan hub with an FAQ, a jukebox that teases a new song called The Happy Dictator, and promises to reveal future news.
