Experience: I am the air guitar world champion
"AC/DC was the first band I discovered on my own. Angus Young, the lead guitarist, was my hero. When I stepped on stage, I did my routine to AC/DC's Whole Lotta Rosie. The crowd started chanting Angus, just like on the live recording, and it hit me: this is what it feels like to be a rock star. I made it to the finals, playing to hundreds of people in Oulu's market square, and I was hooked."
"I went back at 18, tried a few different stage names, but people kept calling me Little Angus so I decided to own it and make The Angus my stage name. I've made it to the final every year since 2022, and in 2023 I came second, so I was determined to win this year. The air guitar community is like a family. Our motto is Make air, not war'. It sounds silly, but it's a real philosophy"
Beginnings in Oulu and parental involvement in the inaugural 1996 contest sparked a childhood fascination with air guitar. Early discovery of AC/DC and admiration for Angus Young shaped a mimed performance identity. Initial stage success in Oulu's market square earned the nickname Little Angus, later adopted as The Angus. After returning at 18 and refining stagecraft, consistent finalists' appearances began in 2022 and culminated in a second-place finish in 2023. The air guitar community emphasizes camaraderie under the motto Make air, not war'. Competitions require one-minute performances judged on energy, mime, charisma, and scored from 4.0 to 6.0, with air-offs for ties.
