Dream Theater unveil "Midnight Messiah" featuring first Mike Portnoy lyrics since 2009
Briefly

Dream Theater has released the music video for 'Midnight Messiah,' the first single from their upcoming album 'Parasomnia' set to release on February 7th. This track marks a significant moment for the band as it features Mike Portnoy's first lyrical contributions since 2009, following his return to the group in late 2023 after a 13-year hiatus. The song blends hard rock and classic metal elements, highlighted by a catchy opening riff and proggy solos. Portnoy shares his excitement about the new lyrics and references to past work, as the band prepares to tour North America for their 40th anniversary.
It was great writing lyrics again and contributing this chapter to the Parasomnia story...DT fans may get a kick out of discovering some of the hidden nuggets I planted in the song referencing many of my past DT lyrics.
The music video is a great representation of the excitement of the first two tour legs we recently completed throughout Europe and South America.
The catchiest of the album singles so far, 'Midnight Messiah' opens with a lurching, slowed tempo that soon becomes a groove-laden riff workout.
The North American leg of the band's 40th anniversary trek will run through a sold-out March 22nd show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
