"With Josh Freese, Josh is a consummate professional. He has a storied career of playing with everyone from Michael Buble to The Offspring, he's had thousands of studio recordings. So he came in, we went out on tour, and we had such a blast. We had a great time. It was like a year-and-a-half of touring, the shows were great and we had a lot of fun."
"He was this incredible human being and he was our brother. He was our best friend. So, continuing after Taylor was really complicated, not just for us, but for any drummer that was going to come in to, like, fill his shoes."
"We called, as a band, all of us called, it wasn't just me. Basically, we called Josh, and were like, 'Hey man, that was awesome. That was such a blast, thank you so much, but we are going to move on and find another drummer.'"
Foo Fighters parted ways with Josh Freese in May 2025 following a period of touring and reflection. Taylor Hawkins' 2022 death left a deep personal and musical void after 25 years as drummer, making any replacement difficult. Freese joined as a seasoned professional and participated in about a year-and-a-half of successful, enjoyable touring through September 2024. During a six- to seven-month break, the band discussed future direction and collectively chose to move on with a different drummer. The band members together called Freese to thank him and inform him of the decision.
