"I was almost willing to give my life up because I was so devoted to what I believed,"
"It wasn't until then that I was like, 'I almost took it too far.'"
"For the most part, I date men, but I consider myself queer, so I'm still open to meeting girls. I still do, if it feels right."
David Archuleta considered ending his life while struggling to reconcile his attraction to men with his Mormon faith. He attempted to repress same-sex attraction through prayer and engagements to women, carrying that repression into his twenties. In 2021 he reached a breaking point and planned to die by suicide before experiencing a turning point in which he felt God told him to accept himself. Archuleta now identifies as queer and says he mostly dates men while remaining open to women. He rose to fame on American Idol in 2008 and has released eight studio albums and multiple EPs, including releases in 2025. Support resources are provided for those affected by these issues.
