WhatsApp is introducing an AI feature called Writing Help to assist users in composing messages. The feature suggests text in tones such as professional, funny, or supportive, and users can accept or ignore suggestions. Users access Writing Help by tapping the new pencil icon while composing messages in one-on-one or group chats. Writing Help runs on Private Processing technology, which allows Meta AI to generate responses without Meta or WhatsApp ever reading the original message or suggested rewrites. Private Processing was stress-tested and validated with security peers. The feature is optional, off by default, and initially rolls out in English in the US and several other countries, with more languages and regions planned later this year.
WhatsApp is launching Writing Help. This is an AI feature that will, as the name implies, help you compose your messages. It will suggest text for you in various styles - professional, funny, or supportive. You can of course either select any suggestion or ignore it. To use this, when writing a message in any one-on-one or group chat, tap the new pencil icon.
Writing Help is built on Private Processing technology, which "allows you to leverage Meta AI to generate a response without Meta or WhatsApp ever reading your message or the suggested re-writes", the company promises. WhatsApp says Private Processing has been stress-tested and validated together with "peers in the security community". The feature is optional and off by default, so if you don't trust Meta's privacy promises, you can simply choose not to use it.
Writing Help is rolling out in English starting in the US and "several other countries". It will arrive in other languages and countries "later this year".
