Microsoft has quietly introduced a free version of Office for Windows, but it comes with several significant limitations. Users may access a limited set of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint features only after installing the software and selecting specific options related to OneDrive storage. The offer includes constant ads, both banners and video, and it solely facilitates saving files to OneDrive rather than locally. This initiative appears to be part of a limited test phase, and extensive restrictions apply to the functionalities available in the free applications.
Did you know that Microsoft quietly launched a free version of Office for Windows and didn't tell anyone? According to a new report today, that's true.
This is apparently a 'limited test', whatever that means, so the procedure outlined below may or may not give you access to the Office apps for free.
You'll get a banner ad constantly, as well as a video ad every few hours. You also can't save files locally, only to OneDrive.
At this point you need to click 'Continue for free' and then, on the next screen, click 'Save to OneDrive'.
