The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra might get full Linux terminal support
"We know that most people won't care about this at all, but if you are reading this article, you are likely among the minority that might actually rejoice to learn that Samsung might be catching up to Google's own Pixel devices in this one admittedly very niche aspect. Our colleagues over at Android Authority got access to some leaked logs from the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra."
"The S26 Ultra is expected to debut with One UI 8.5, with leaked builds pointing towards the phone running Android 16's second quarterly release (QPR2) at launch. This is the same release in which Google introduced the Linux Terminal feature, so all of the prerequisites appear to be in place. What a Linux Terminal feature means in practice is access to a whole sea of Linux-based apps that normally require a computer to run."
Leaked logs indicate the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra contains the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF), a component missing from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The S26 Ultra is expected to ship with One UI 8.5 and Android 16's second quarterly release (QPR2) at launch, which includes Google's Linux Terminal feature. With AVF present and QPR2 prerequisites met, the phone could run a full Linux terminal environment. A Linux Terminal enables access to a broad range of Linux-based applications normally limited to desktop machines. Tinkerers and developers can gain extended functionality and on-device development capabilities.
