Samsung reportedly forced to raise prices due to ever-rising RAM cost
Most smartphone makers have previously absorbed memory chip price increases through cost optimizations elsewhere, including Apple and Samsung. Samsung may not be able to do so going forward. A report indicates Samsung will raise prices on some phones in Europe starting in June. Expected increases are around €100 for Galaxy S series models and for Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7. The impact may extend beyond base models to higher storage tiers. Analysts also warn that broader price increases may occur in the second half of the year because of a memory shortage.
"Up until now, most smartphone manufacturers, Apple and Samsung included, were able to absorb the memory chip price shock through optimizations and cutting costs elsewhere. However, this might not be possible for Samsung going forward."
"According to a report from Greece, Samsung is planning to raise prices on some of its phones in Europe starting in June. The Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 price tags are expected to jump by around €100."
"It's unclear whether the price hike will affect only the base models, but it's easy to assume that the higher-tier storage options will see also see some sort of price bump."
"It's also safe to assume that Samsung won't be the only one transferring the higher cost of RAM prices to its consumers. Analysts have warned us about an increase in prices in the second half of this year due to a memory shortage, so buckle up."
