Samsung LSI might lose its Exynos chip design business to Samsung MX
Briefly

Samsung is contemplating transferring the Exynos chip design responsibility from its LSI division to the Mobile Experience (MX) unit, which handles Galaxy smartphones. This restructuring aims to improve the performance of Exynos chips, especially given LSI's recent inability to meet critical deadlines, such as for the Galaxy S25 and S23 series. However, this move faces internal resistance and highlights ongoing issues within Samsung Foundry, which struggles to compete with TSMC in manufacturing technology.
Currently, Samsung’s LSI arm is responsible for the Exynos chip design, but internal talks suggest that the task might be transferred over to Samsung MX.
The idea behind it is to bring the chip design team under the Samsung MX umbrella so they can all work on improving the Exynos chips' performance.
The reason why Samsung is flirting with the idea is likely due to Samsung LSI's poor performance in recent years.
However, there seems to be internal disagreement over that move, the report suggests. Some oppose the decision, others are on board.
