Samsung MX has requested information from BOE about OLED panel development for the Galaxy S27 and has been evaluating BOE samples for more than a month. Industry insiders claim BOE can meet the Galaxy S27 OLED requirements without major technical obstacles. BOE has allegedly offered OLED panels priced $5 lower per unit than Samsung Display. Samsung MX would benefit financially from the lower cost. Concerns exist that switching to BOE panels could disrupt Samsung Electronics’ OLED ecosystem, affecting the profitability of the display division and related component suppliers. Samsung already uses non-Samsung OLED panels for the Galaxy A57, but the Galaxy S series has not used outside panels before.
"Samsung's Mobile eXperience (MX) division has requested information from BOE regarding OLED panel development for the Galaxy S27 and has been evaluating samples for over a month. According to unnamed industry insiders, BOE is on track to meet the requirements for the Galaxy S27 OLED panels, with no major technical difficulties in BOE's way."
"More importantly, BOE has allegedly pitched its OLED panels at a price that's $5 lower (per unit) than the ones from Samsung Display. From a financial perspective, the move would be favorable for Samsung MX, but at the same time, there are concerns that the move to BOE panels would disrupt Samsung Electronics' OLED ecosystem, including the profitability of the display division and its component suppliers."
"As a reminder, Samsung is already sourcing OLED panels for its Galaxy A57 from outside companies like TCL CSOT but the Galaxy S series has never used non-Samsung panels."
