Daniel Ortega, armed with a rifle, opened fire at a Las Vegas gym, killing gym manager Edgar Quinonez and injuring three others. Surveillance footage captured Ortega's initial actions before he fired 24 rounds. Police believe he intended to carry out a mass shooting, but a gun malfunction prevented further casualties. After police arrived, Ortega attempted to flee but was shot by officers and later died in the hospital. The motive behind his attack remains unclear, and an investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding his prior connection to the gym and victims.
"Fortunately, this gentleman had a malfunction in his weapon, which actually saved this from being a mass casualty event," Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Assistant Sheriff Jamie Prosser said.
The gunman was then caught on camera stalking the front doors as responding officers staged themselves outside.
