"Gable Steveson is putting in the work ahead of his third scheduled mixed martial arts appearance. The former two-time NCAA national champion wrestler and Olympic gold medalist is training extensively with ex-UFC two-division champion Jon Jones to hone his skill set as he works his way toward his goal of an Octagon debut. In a series of videos posted on social media, Steveson works both striking and wrestling with Jones."
""Great weekend with Gable," Jones wrote on Instagram. "He's leveling up extraordinarily fast. Teaching is a martial art of its own, and I'm still learning it. Won't be long now until we're standing there with the new heavyweight champion of the world." While Jones seems to be embracing his role as a coach, "Bones" is still holding out hope for a fight on the UFC White House card that is expected to be held this June."
Gable Steveson, a two-time NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist, is training heavily with former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones to develop striking and wrestling for an Octagon debut. Steveson has finished his first two MMA opponents inside a round and is scheduled to face 14-fight veteran Hugo Lezama at Mexico Fight League 3 on Feb. 19. Jones posted praise on Instagram about Steveson's rapid progress and described teaching as its own martial art. Jones remains hopeful for a fight on the UFC White House card in June, though UFC CEO Dana White has shown reluctance after a failed unification bout.
