Sergio Pettis opens up on going into PFL Chicago without longtime coach
"[First fight without Roufus] Ever since I was 14. It's definitely gonna affect me a little bit mentally. Just the first couple of days of fight camp."
"He left me with some great generals - Scott Cushman, he is one of guys that I've been coached by since I was 14 as well, so I got a good relationship with him."
"Not only that man, times have changed, I got a kid in my life now. Don't get me wrong, I'm sad that my coach passed away, but I've got a lot to prove, to my son, to my coach, to the world."
Sergio Pettis will compete at PFL Chicago without his longtime coach Duke Roufus, who passed away in October 2025. This marks the first fight since Pettis was 14 years old without Roufus in his corner. Although emotionally affected, Pettis feels supported by his striking and grappling coaches, Scott Cushman and Christopher Wright, who have been with him for years. With his brother Anthony in his corner and the motivation of his newborn son, Pettis aims to channel his emotions positively during the fight.
