Gustafsson began aggressively with wild overhand shots that largely missed while Fakhretdinov absorbed the early pressure and advanced. A straight left from Fakhretdinov staggered Gustafsson, who retreated toward the cage. Fakhretdinov followed with a barrage against the cage and the referee stopped the fight at 0:54 of round one. The win extended Fakhretdinov's unbeaten UFC streak to seven, moved his pro record to 24-1-1, and should push him into the top fifteen welterweight rankings.
