Sukhrab Magomedov, coach of Magomed Ankalaev, stated that Alex Pereira appeared to have been greased during their light heavyweight championship fight at UFC 313. Magomedov described observations during the fight, noting Pereira’s body seemed slick, likely due to grease used in sparring or ointments often applied during weight cuts. Magomedov added that Ankalaev noticed a sticky substance in Pereira's hair and perceived an unusual smell, hinting at potential foul play. He also acknowledged Pereira's coach, Glover Teixeira, as someone knowledgeable about these tactics.
"When Magomed pushed him to the fence near our corner, it seemed to me that Pereira was greased with something. It happens - fighters get greased up for sparring sessions. Or when they're cutting weight they use some ointment, the way it goes the sweat doesn't flow off, but jells up."
"Magomed also said afterwards that [Pereira] smelled like he had some ointment and had something in his hair, as it was sticky... Plus, I think Texeira is really experienced in stuff like that."
