Boxing star Lomachenko, 37, opts for retirement
Briefly

Vasiliy Lomachenko, a former three-division world champion and one of the greatest amateur boxers, announced his retirement at 37. Known for his impressive amateur record of 396-1 and Olympic gold medals, Lomachenko turned pro in 2013. His last fight was a TKO victory against George Kambosos Jr. in 2024. Despite hints of a potential match with Gervonta "Tank" Davis, Lomachenko lacked the motivation to continue in boxing. In a social media video, he expressed gratitude for his journey, emphasizing the clarity he has gained on achieving true victory beyond boxing.
I'm grateful for every victory and every defeat both in the ring and in life. I'm thankful that as my career comes to an end, I've gained clarity about the direction a person must take in order to achieve true victory, not just in the ring.
Lomachenko's decision comes just over a year after his last fight, an 11th-round TKO of former undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
