SFPD arrests man in San Francisco's first homicide of 2025

On Jan. 1 at 12:25 a.m., San Francisco police officers arrived at a business on South Van Ness Avenue between 16th and 17th streets, responding to a shooting.
While conducting their investigation, officers learned that the suspect fled from the scene in an SUV after the shooting occurred. Police found the SUV just outside city borders, near Bayshore Boulevard and Geneva Avenue.
The suspect was removed from the vehicle and subsequently taken into custody without further incident. Jail records show Rivera Flores was booked into San Francisco County Jail for homicide at 7:31 a.m.
