Elaine McKinley, a 79-year-old woman with dementia, went missing while hiking in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. After separating from her family, she was last seen on the Lost Trail. The search effort has mobilized over 40 search-and-rescue personnel and 70 additional volunteers from various counties as of Friday morning. Tools like drones, dogs, and an airplane were deployed by the sheriff's office. Sheriff Christina Corpus expressed hope for her safe return and urged the public to refrain from accessing the Preserve to assist in the search effort.
"We remain very hopeful that we will locate Elaine so she can be reunited with her loved ones," Sheriff Christina Corpus said in a statement.
"To aid in the efficiency of the search, members of the public should avoid the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve parking lot in Portola Valley," according to the sheriff's office.
