Save Downtown Menlo takes first step in putting city's plan to eliminate parking on the ballot
Briefly

A coalition of Menlo Park residents, under Save Downtown Menlo, is initiating efforts to oppose the city’s redevelopment plans for three downtown parking lots into public housing, seeking to place this issue on the ballot for public vote. This proposal follows an ongoing lawsuit against the city regarding the project, as it garners divided opinions among locals. Proponents argue that any reduction in public parking warrants voter input due to the plazas being community assets. Such ballot measures have historical precedence in Menlo Park, reflecting a long-standing local tradition.
This initiative simply says that any plan to diminish public parking downtown should go to the voters. The plazas are public assets, and the public deserves a say before they're lost forever.
Mayor Drew Combs said the ballot measure isn't surprising. It's fairly common that in Menlo Park's history, major development matters have ultimately gone to the ballot.
