One injured in fire Wednesday at Martinez Refining Company

A fire occurred at the Martinez Refining Company, injuring one individual. The Hazardous Materials team from Contra Costa Health was dispatched to assess potential health impacts, ultimately determining there were none. Following the extinguishing of the fire, it was reported that several workers were also evaluated but released. The Martinez Refining Company intends to resume operations of unaffected units, anticipating intermittent flaring over the next couple of weeks. This incident marks the second fire at the refinery since early February, prompting a Level 3 alert from health officials.
Around 8:20 p.m., Contra Costa Health announced its hazmat team was responding to a report of a fire at the facility, located in the 3400 block of Pacheco Boulevard.
The fire is the second at the facility since Feb. 1. Contra Costa Health issued a Level 3 alert in response to the incident.
