On the 17th day of operations at the 16th Street BART plaza, the area demonstrated a notable presence of cleaning and policing, creating a change in the environment. While the surrounding streets remained mostly quiet, local vendors, like Maria, expressed fear and frustrations due to the increased law enforcement presence, leading her to cease selling products. Meanwhile, areas such as Julian Avenue continued to be busy, highlighting the contrasting activity levels in the vicinity as community dynamics shift with ongoing operations.
Not much changed on Friday morning - day No. 17 of the operations at the 16th Street BART plaza and nearby areas. Both plazas looked quiet, clean and had visible police presence while Julian Avenue stayed, once again, busy.
A fruit vendor at the southwestern plaza called Maria said she quit selling shampoos and other beauty supplies at the plaza following the command center's arrival. "I got scared. I decided to quit because there's constant police presence," said Maria.
