Community remains hopeful on Day 4 as search for missing 79-year-old San Mateo Co. woman continues
Briefly

The search for 79-year-old Margaret Elaine McKinley, who has dementia, has entered its fourth day in Portola Valley, California. Despite difficult conditions in a 1,400-acre wilderness area, including steep terrain and poison oak, over 150 volunteers and drone teams are actively searching. San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus emphasized that this remains a proactive rescue mission rather than a recovery operation. Search efforts have covered 3,000 miles, with the team maintaining high morale in hopes of finding McKinley alive soon.
3,000 miles have been tracked by searches on the ground... we have been on searches where we have recovered somebody alive after an entire week of them being missing.
Today, I had a briefing with our team, and we are not there yet. We will continue to look for Elaine.
Very steep terrain, tons of poison oak, lots of steep drainages. Our team has high spirits and morale.
I've never seen anything like it. The more the days go on, it's scary for her. I feel bad.
