Yanks' Stroman is no-show for first two workouts
Briefly

New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman has opted to miss the initial workouts of spring training, reportedly out until mandatory reporting on February 22. Manager Aaron Boone communicated with Stroman prior to his absence but won’t disclose the player's reasons. Despite Stroman’s situation being awkward—given he is not projected to be in the starting rotation—Boone respects the MLB collective bargaining rules allowing players the choice to delay their arrival. Given Stroman's pride and his substantial salary of $18.5 million, the Yankees hope for his return soon.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated, "I want him here, obviously, but we also have to respect the rules that are set up." Stroman is allowed a grace period.
Boone commented on Stroman, saying, "He's a prideful player...it's a little bit of an awkward situation, obviously. So of course I want him here."
