Workers at Bord na Mona Recycling vote to conduct ballot for strike if company is privatised
Briefly

The potential privatisation of Bord na Móna Recycling could affect up to 135,000 households in Leinster and North Munster, prompting Siptu members to prepare for strike action. This union views the refuse service as the last publicly-owned waste collection service. A recent vote indicated unanimous support for industrial action if privatisation moves forward. Siptu's Adrian Kane highlights the urgent need for regulation and warns of a monopolistic scenario that could undermine environmental standards and customer service. He stresses the negative ramifications for workers should these privatisation efforts succeed.
Siptu divisional organiser Adrian Kane claimed the domestic waste collection sector is like 'the wild west.' He emphasized, 'Report after report is calling for more regulation, state investment and oversight.'
Kane warned, 'The privatisation of Bord na Móna Recycling is bad for workers, the environment and customers. It will be opposed strongly by our members.'
Kane expressed concerns that, 'the private sector will be left with a complete monopoly in the domestic waste collection sector if the company is sold.'
