With slow zones conquered, MBTA is eyeing much faster speeds on the Red and Orange lines
Briefly

Transportation officials have announced that the Red and Orange subway lines will return to their original design speeds of 50 mph and 55 mph, respectively, as the MBTA undertakes efforts to eliminate speed restrictions. Currently, both lines are operating at 40 mph. Senior director Jody Ray emphasized the importance of 'vegetation control' for safety at higher speeds. The initiative follows the replacement of 252,000 feet of rail and a significant staffing increase aimed at enhancing train performance across the transit system.
Speed restrictions are not a repair, they're a temporary situation until we can affect the repair.
I take the orange line almost every day. I got in here today and I was raving about how fast that train is moving.
