Gabriel Ornelas Garcia, who has a history of crime, explained his commitment to change, stating "I vowed never to return" to crime after previous convictions.
Peggy Stevenson, the founder of the Record Clearance Project, noted, "People just don't know... it makes all the difference in the world," emphasizing the lack of awareness about legal relief.
Since its start in 2008, the Record Clearance Project has seen over 1,000 students help expunge criminal records, achieving a remarkable 99% success rate.
Many individuals are eligible for automatic clearance of their convictions after parole or probation, yet only 5% pursue this legal relief within five years of eligibility.
