"We are the guinea pigs of this industry," one resident Vallorie Oliver said during a July meeting where residents raised concerns about the wind farm project. Concerns arose after a blade from a GE Vernova turbine broke, prompting significant ocean debris that affected Nantucket beaches and surrounding areas. Residents expressed their apprehension over the unfolding events, increasing their scrutiny of the safety protocols in place for the innovative wind energy initiative."
GE said its preliminary investigation found the blade fell into the ocean due to a "manufacturing deviation." With this revelation, a recovery effort commenced, as the company deployed two vessels to retrieve the debris from the ocean floor near the Vineyard Wind farm. These measures are part of their commitment to expedite debris removal and reassure local residents about the safety of future operations."
