The UK’s gas storage facilities were just 42% full, warning of dangerous levels as temperatures plummet and with only a week’s worth of stored gas left.
Centrica reported UK gas stocks are 26% lower than the same time last year, attributing the drop to the end of Russian gas deliveries via Ukraine.
The disparity in gas storage is illustrated well; UK can only store enough for 12 days in winter compared to Germany’s 89 days, a stark contrast.
The closure of the Rough facility greatly impacted UK gas storage since it used to provide 70% of the capacity prior to its shutdown in 2017.
