Whole Foods Market has filed objections following a union election where 57% of employees voted in favor of unionizing at a Philadelphia store. The company claims The United Food and Commercial Workers Union promised a 30% wage hike and provided transport on voting day. It also accused the union of intimidating pro-Whole Foods employees. The union dismissed these accusations as baseless and suggested they were attempts to delay negotiations. The election’s certification is complex due to a vacancy in the NLRB's board membership.
In its objection to the election, the upscale grocery chain also accused the NLRB of tainting the process by restraining the company from communicating its views on unionization to employees through required meetings held during work hours.
Wendell Young IV, the president of the local union, stated, 'We fully expected Whole Foods to try to stall this process. Amazon has a well-documented history of using baseless objections to undermine the rights of workers seeking representation, and this case is no different.'
