The A train will be temporarily shut down beginning Jan 17 and running through May 19, impacting nearly 9,000 daily riders living on the Rockaway Peninsula.
The MTA enacted the suspension for the Rockaway Resiliency Project, which will repair the A-line over a 17-week period due to damage suffered after Superstorm Sandy.
Assembly Member Stacey Pheffer Amato emphasized her commitment to ensuring no one is left without access, stating, 'I appreciate that the MTA worked with our community to provide acceptable alternatives.'
Emergency repairs restored service seven months after the storm, but extensive rehabilitation of the Hammels Wye Viaduct and South Channel Bridge is necessary to protect the A-line from extreme weather.
